Bel Air/Holmby Hills

 Privacy, glamour, luxury, and prestige beckon in this area that holds timeless allure. This neighborhood is known for taking the best of the natural landscape and gilding the lily in the most marvelous of ways. Exclusivity and rarefied air are the order of the day in this elite enclave. Bel Air and Holmby Hills represent two thirds of what is known as the Platinum Triangle (Beverly Hills makes up the last third).

Real Estate:  This area offers larger homes and estates for sale. Many celebrities and notable citizens have called Bel Air and Holmby Hills home. There are no multi-family homes in Bel Air and the majority of residents own their homes.  The estates often feature tennis courts, swimming pools, guesthouses, and large lawns, all often tucked behind privacy gates. There are two main gates, East Gate and West Gate, through which to enter Bel Air. There are three main neighborhoods in Bel Air: East Gate Old Bel Air, West Gate Bel Air, and Upper Bel Air.

Holmby Hills got its development start earlier than some other local areas. Lots were marketed in 1925 and the area still maintains the English-style street lamps designed during that era.

Community Life:  Bel Air is mostly residential but there are a select number of exclusive shops in the area including the well-regarded Bel Air Foods, a community store founded in 1952. Holmby Park is known as a quiet place for kids and dogs but is also famed for the lawn bowling club, which was established in 1927. The Armand Hammer Pitch and Putt Golf Course is a small course in Holmby Park.

The Familian Campus of the American Jewish University is located in Bel Air and continuing education events are held there.

Education: The area is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District including Roscomore Road Elementary School and other schools in nearby Westwood. There are a wide variety of private options including the prestigious Harvard-Westlake School which has its middle school campus in this area and the Marymount High School, which is an all-girls school.

Transportation:  Accessed by the 405 Freeway and by Sunset Boulevard, Bel Air is best explored by car. There are a few bus lines that run through the area.

Local Attractions: Hotel Bel Air offers 12 acres of landscaped gardens and is one of the most private and tranquil hotels in the area. The hotel also includes a spa by La Prairie. The Bel Air Country Club was founded in 1925 and has one of the most exclusive and well-rated golf courses in Los Angeles. Holmby Hills is famous as the home of the Playboy Mansion.
